  14. Step 4 on page 428 of the Windows NT Advanced Server System Guide
  15. implies that mandatory user profiles can be assigned to local groups.
  16. This is a documentation error. If you assign a mandatory profile to a
  17. local group when you, as a user from that local group, attempt to log
  18. onto a Windows NT computer other than the primary domain server in
  19. that domain, you the following error message appears:
  20.  
  21.    The mandatory profile cannot be loaded.
  22.  
  23. You are then unable to logon.
  24.  
  25. This occurs because local groups can be accessed only by the domain
  26. servers and not by the workstations. Also, the permissions on the
  27. profiles assigned to local groups can be read only by the primary
  28. domain controller of the domain.
  29.  
  30. You should assign mandatory user profiles to Global groups instead of
  31. Local groups.

  33. Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Windows NT
  34. Advanced Server System Guide for Version 3.1. We are researching this
  35. problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge
  36. Base as it becomes available.
